BBBS Spring Fever Jazz Festival Benefit Concert

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Western New Hampshire sponsored an exciting evening of music last Saturday evening. The 2nd Spring Fever Jazz Festival was held March 27, 2010 at Stevens High School in Claremont NH.  School bands from Charlestown Middle School, Claremont Middle School, and St Joseph Regional School performed a number of jazz selections. In addition, the Firehouse Six Dixieland Band provided entertainment between sets.  All proceeds from the concert support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Western New Hampshire.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is opening a new site-based program at Sunapee Grade School, and we need volunteer mentors! Free Easter Breakfast

The Stoddard Congregational Church will hold an Easter breakfast on Sunday, April 4th from 7:15 to 9:30 am at the Faulkner Elementary Community Room. The menu includes juice, bacon, scrambled eggs, pancakes with maple syrup, baked goods, coffee, tea, and cocoa. The breakfast is free and open to the public, and donations are appreciated. Easter services will be held at the sanctuary after the breakfast.

 

Sunday Breakfast

On Sundays from 7 to 11 am at American Legion Post #4, Court St., Keene. Two eggs (any style), home fries, sausage or bacon, toast, juice, coffee, or tea.

Keene Public Library Hosts Free Family Dance

Friday, April 2nd, at 6:30 pm at the library’s Heberton Hall. The Keene Public Library hosts a free Family Contra Dance with caller Kathy Torrey of Alstead Torrey will be joined by Gordon Peery on piano and Randy Miller on fiddle. The library is located at 60 Winter Street. Dances are held the first Friday of the month November through May. Each dance features traditional contras, squares, circle dances, singing squares, playing party games from around the world, and modern contras. Includes beverages and a break for the participants to sing songs and tell stories. Experienced and inexperienced dancers of all ages may attend. Keene Library Offers Anime, Manga Fan Club

On Monday, April 5th, the Keene Public Library’s Anime and Manga Fan Club will meet to review new and classic Anime and Manga titles. The fan club meets on the first Monday of the month at 3 pm and is open to everyone  age 12 and up. The first hour of the meeting is devoted to screening videos. Comic book artist Marek Bennett will visit at 4 pm and offer a presentation on Japanese Manga. Club members will learn how Manga differs from American and European comics, and how to apply Japanese principles of storytelling in their own comic creations. Mad Science’s Spring Session of Six-Week After-School Programs

“Jr. Explorers” Will meet on Monday, April 5th, at the Marlborough Elementary School for grades K-6. Annual Easter Egg Hunt

Hosted by Sunapee Recreation on Saturday, April 3rd, at Veteran's field (in case  of bad weather go to Sherburne gym). Hunt will begin promptly at 10:30 am. Please bring your own basket!! Open to kids ages 8 and younger. All 2000 eggs are filled with toys! Extra special eggs too!

Holiday Inn Pool - No Pass Needed

Matches do not need a pass to use the pool the Holiday Inn Express, Key Rd. Keene. Tell the person at the desk that you are a Big Sister/Brother and Little Sister/Brother; and there will be no charge. This privilege was verified on February 17, 2010.

 

Monadnock Humane Society

Bigs and Littles are welcome to visit the animals at the Humane Society on Route 10 South in Swanzey. Visit the kitty rooms, pet the bunnies or talk to the dogs.  Littles who wish to take a dog for a walk must be accompanied by an 18-or-older Big.

Volunteers, Donations Needed For Neighbors G.I.V.E.

Neighbors G.I.V.E. (Group Involved in Volunteer Efforts) is a Rindge non-profit organization created to assist those in need of a helping hand and to enable them to recover from that need. Its first major project is to construct a new home for Larry and Judy Harris. Larry was constable for over 18 years and has been animal control officer in Rindge for over 40 years. Mold and mildew has permeated the floors and walls of their home, making it an unhealthy place to live. A Flapjack Fund-raiser at the Applebee’s on KeyRoad in Keene will take place on Saturday, April 17 from 8 to 10 am. Tickets will be sold at the door. All profits will benefit the Larry Harris Family House Fund. The group will also hold the pancake breakfasts March 20th and April 17th. For more details, call 603-899-6490. Get to know the small animals by helping to feed and water in the chicken coop, pig pen and sheep pasture. The animals love company! Training will be available as well as help in the beginning.

Peterborough Woman’s Club’s Two Scholarships

Starting Thursday, April 1, applications will be available at the Peterborough Town Library, The Wellness Center, The River Center, the Peterborough Chamber of Commerce, more. First Annual Celebrating Women Expo, Exhibitors Reserve Early

Monadnock Women will have its first annual Celebrating Women Expo at the Best Western Sovereign Hotel in Keene on Saturday, April 24th from 9:45 am to 4:30 pm. The day will open with a speech from author Anna Raimondi. Raimondi has an MBA and a BA in psychology, and is a healer, Reiki and Chios master, advanced IET practitioner, hypnotherapist, grief counselor, and shaman. Her talk will focus on living the life that you were meant to live, and learning to love and appreciate yourself and those around you.

 

Financial seminars during this event will be led by Edward Jones, stage events by Lady of America, and interactive mother/daughter workshops on relationship building led by Holly Rilling and Cathy Lebeaux. There will be a live radio broadcast during the expo, raffles, door prizes, table demonstrations by exhibitors, skin care, a gold show, and more.

 

The expo is free with a persona- care-item donation to be sent to female veterans serving overseas. This expo gives the at-home small businesswoman a chance to exhibit her services and products. Exhibitors can reserve an early bird exhibitor space for 20 percent off; the deadline is Monday, February 15th.

A New Professional "Train the Trainers" program for Parenting Professionals, Education, Social Service, Mental Health and Juvenile Court Professionals and anyone who cares about NH Families.

Including: an evidence-based "Take and Go" Training Kit with a CD containing Power Point Presentations, Handouts, and Resources for Parents as well as copies of the new  16 Page booklet for parents to use to develop a bullying plan.,
and a riveting day of training on how to include parents as integral partners in stopping bullying in New Hampshire.
